Greetings Eccodek massive! It's been an insanely productive winter here in Canada, with so much creative momentum in the Monastereo studio, that i'm remiss in my scribbling. So here's what's been keeping us up late at night.
Eccodek joins Sarah Harmer, Hawksley Workman, Richie Hawtin, the Canadian Tenors, Jully Black and more as they celebrate Canada Day, July 1st in London, England's Trafalgar Square. Dubbed a Canadian Affair, the band is expected to perform before 6,000 people in Canada's largest celebration of the national holiday outside of the country. More UK shows to be announced.
The new film score by Eccodek members Andrew and Deliveryboy, titled Metropolis Re:Scored, is now available. Find it also on iTunes. Created to be played live in sync with Fritz Lang's 1927 silent film classic Metropolis, the duo's soundtrack is already making waves with critics. Read New York's Huffington Post review here and watch the debut performance of their arresting score at Toronto's Yonge and Dundas Square here.
Andrew's collaboration with EarthRise SoundSystem on the track 'Sombience' from their wicked record The Yoga Sessions continues to make new fans in both the downtempo and yoga communities. Listen to the track here.
A new compilation out of Germany, Oriental Garden Vol. 7, features Eccodek's 'Behind the Mask' alongside tracks from Rachid Taha, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Shantel and more. And keep your ears peeled for a yoga-centric compilation from highly influential Six Degrees Records (Michael Franti, Bombay Dub Orchestra, Cheb i Sabbah) featuring Eccodek track 'Silent Song'.
Eccodek leader Andrew McPherson released his 3rd solo album Lefty Singer in late 2009 and praise for the intimate suite of art folk songs keeps rolling in the door. CBC's 'Fresh Air' voted it one of the top 10 recordings of the year and Toronto's Now Magazine and Vancouver's World Beat Canada gave it sterling reviews. If you haven't yet heard the record, you're in for a treat. Take a wander over here and explore.
Listen to Eccodek's live performance in collaboration with Kiran Ahluwalia from 2008's Vancouver Jazz festival show at Performance Works, recorded by CBC Radio 2.
